Cycling: The Swiss Marlen Reusser just missed out on winning the World Cup after winning the European Championship. Only Ellen van Dijk from the Netherlands was a few seconds faster. In the U23 class, the Dane Johan Price-Pejtersen was crowned world champion just a few days after his success at the European Championships.
Van Dijk beats Reusser by 10 seconds
Sitting for many long minutes ellen van dijk (Netherlands) in the hot seat in the Bruges goal area. Expecting the top favorites, she couldn't be sure until the end whether it would be enough for a medal. Eleven days earlier she lost to the Swiss in the European Championship time trial Marlene Reusser at 19 seconds. But this time she should come out on top. Although the Swiss always crossed the intermediate times a touch faster, it wasn't enough in the end. She was 10 seconds short of a double triumph from the European Championship and the World Championship. After her triumph in the European Championship road race, Ellen van Dijk celebrates her next big success within a few days. Bronze goes on Annemiek van Vleuten (Netherlands), who already lost 24 seconds. The two Germans Lisa Brennauer and Lisa Klein finish the World Cup time trial in 5th and 7th place and show once again that they are among the best female professionals in the fight against the clock. Sensational Olympic champion Anna kiesenhofer (Austria) was 17th. The women had to cover 30,3 kilometers from Knokke-Heist to Bruges.
