Montrailer Quin: Stable off-road helmet with smart crash detection

August 20, 2021 by the editorial office

Product news: Abus is expanding its range of models with the Montrailer Quin, thereby ensuring even more safety when mountain biking. The smart helmet has an integrated sensor that can save lives in the event of a fall. The robust off-road helmet also ensures the necessary safety on solo tours and gives the driver complete freedom for new adventures.

Increasingly demanding trails and better riding skills also require more protection. The Montrailer Quin should offer maximum protection through a structural reinforcement integrated in the EPS to optimize stability. In addition, the in-mold construction offers a permanent connection between the shell and the shock-absorbing inner material. The newly designed Abus helmet is now available from specialist dealers or online at the price of EUR 169,99 .

The Abus Montrailer is available in different designs. What they have in common is the bright color scheme, which also helps with visibility.

Smart crash detection of the Montrailer Quin

With the smart Quin system, crash detection is integrated in the Montrailer Quin. The helmet has an integrated accelerometer that detects and measures falls. In the event of a fall, the system notifies a person stored by the driver, who can then immediately call for help, since the location is sent directly. But the developers at Abus have also come up with something for lighter falls that do not require external help. After a detected fall, the driver first has the opportunity to stop the help signal on his mobile phone for 15 seconds before the emergency contact is notified.

The Quin unit sits in the neck area of the helmet. The loading port is also located here.

In addition to the Quin system, the new Montrailer Quin is equipped with other practical technologies. For example, the semi-enclosing plastic ring with a finely adjustable adjustment system should ensure optimal stability and form-fitting. The five air inlets and seven air outlets, which are connected by flow channels, are intended to ensure good ventilation. The helmet is also particularly well suited for people with braids due to the well thought-out recesses at the back of the head.

The opinion of our editors

The robust and stable construction is immediately apparent when you first look at the helmet and promises maximum safety even in the event of a hard fall. The overall look is rather technical and thus once again points to the smart features of the helmet. The quick and easy-to-operate Fidlock magnetic closure proves to be particularly practical.

As soon as you put it on, the helmet gives you a feeling of security, although the slightly higher weight of 400g is also noticeable. As with any helmet, the fit is primarily one thing: subjective! The shape is rather round and - surprise - fits best on rather round heads. As with any helmet, we recommend putting it on before you buy it. The adjustment system is very easy to use and a great thing for fine adjustment.

In size L, the Montrailer Quin is larger than most of the competition's helmets - so for most, the M should be the right choice. However, if you are looking for a very large helmet, you will definitely find a suitable head protection here.

All in all, with the Montrailer Quin, Abus has created a high-end product that offers damn good protection and can also score points with smart safety features.
