Tour de Suisse #7: Uranium wins time trial surprisingly clearly

June 12, 2021 by Michael Behringer

Uranium Rigoberto Tour de Suisse

Cycling: Rigoberto Uran has set an exclamation mark with a view to the Tour de France in two weeks. The Colombian surprisingly won the time trial of the Tour de Suisse by a clear margin and is now second in the overall standings. Richard Carapaz now has a lead of just 17 seconds.

Uran clearly wins the time trial

This time trial was not for the classic time trial specialists. The 23,2 kilometer course from Disentis Sedrun to Andermatt was only up and then down. Accordingly, at the end of the day, a climber was allowed to celebrate. Somewhat surprisingly won Rigoberto Urán (EF – Nippo) the fight against the clock – clearly. With a 40-second lead, he referred Julian Alaphilippe (Deceuninck – Quick-Step) for second place. The Swiss completes the podium Gino Mader (Bahrain - Victorious) already 54 seconds back.

Carapaz defends his overall lead

It succeeded with fourth place Richard Carapaz (Ineos Grenadiers) to defend their overall lead. The Ecuadorian is now only 17 seconds ahead of today's winner. Maximilian schachmann (Bora – hansgrohe) finished the time trial as the best German in 13th place and thus slipped back to fourth place in the overall ranking. Tomorrow the Tour de Suisse ends with the eighth stage in Andermatt. There are three tough mountains to overcome, including the Gotthard Pass at the end.
