Cycling: Yellow is the color of the Tour de France. But in addition to the overall ranking, there are other important special rankings in the Tour of France. In this preview, we look at the favorites in the Green Jersey, White Jersey and Mountain Jersey battles - and we even make predictions.
Green jersey: Sagan is the favorite again
There are three serious candidates for the scoring of the Tour de France 2021. Of course, the seven-time Green Jersey winner, peter sagan, the top favorite again this year. Last season he was sensationally beaten by Sam Bennett. But the Irishman will be absent this year. Therefore, its main competitors are now called Caleb ewan and Arnaud Demare. The Australian and the French have their advantages in a classic, flat bunch sprint, while the Slovakian can also score on demanding stages. Since all three drivers can count on the support of their teammates, we expect an exciting three-way battle. However, it is questionable whether Caleb Ewan will even finish the Tour de France. After the Giro d'Italia and the Tour de France, he also wants to be successful at the Vuelta a Espana. Incidentally, in our opinion, probably unbeatable in this rating would be Wout van Aert. However, the Belgian will put himself fully at the service of captain Primoz Roglic and is therefore not really a contender for the green jersey.
Velomotion prognosis in the fight for the green jersey:
1. Peter Sagan (Bora – hansgrohe)
2.Caleb Ewan (Lotto-Soudal)
3. Arnaud Démare (Groupama – FDJ)

Mountain jersey: ranking rider or climbing king?
As with everyone Tour de France it is almost impossible to predict the results, especially in the mountains classification. It is difficult to guess who will wear the mountain jersey from the start and who will only later move up to the list of candidates. Because often the mountain points are automatically driven in by breakaways on mountain stages. Not infrequently there are ranking drivers among them who have already lost too much time and then changed their focus from yellow to spotted. It could for example Simon yates fare. The Brit already has the Giro d'Italia under his feet and is unlikely to fight for the yellow jersey in the Tour de France. Julian Alaphilippe plans to do so but may shift priorities in week three. Could squint at the mountain jersey right from the start William Martin. Instead of finishing tenth overall, overall victory in the mountain classification would certainly be the greater success. It is also possible for a driver to be on the podium in the overall standings and at the same time win the mountain jersey - this happened last year with Tadej Pogacar.
Velomotion forecast in the battle for the mountain jersey:
1. Simon Yates (BikeExchange)
2. Julian Alaphilippe (Deceuninck – Quick Step)
3. Guillaume Martin (Cofidis)

White jersey: Pogacar is the clear favorite
In the past year has Tadej pogacar properly cleared at the Tour de France. In addition to the yellow jersey, the Slovenian also won the mountain jersey and the white jersey. It is possible that this season will be similar. In the junior classification he is the clear favorite. Even if it doesn't work out with the title defense in terms of yellow, a place in the top 5 is probably enough to conquer the white jersey again. But if the reigning tour winner actually weakens, they could david gaudu or Lucas Hamilton step out of his shadow. While the Frenchman is the clear captain in his team in the mountains, the Australian has to take a place behind Simon Yates in his team. He can only suddenly assume the role of captain if he doesn't actually make it into the overall standings.
Velomotion Prediction in the Battle for the White Jersey:
1. Tadej Pogacar (UAE)
2. David Gaudu (Groupama – FDJ)
3. Lucas Hamilton (Bike Exchange)
