At the age of 41, Alejandro Valverde (Movistar) earned a stage win at the Critérium du Dauphiné. The veteran won the 167,2-kilometer section from Loriol-sur-Drome to Le Sappey-en-Chartreuse in an uphill sprint Tao Geoghegan Hart (Ineos Grenadiers) and Patrick Conrad (Bora – hansgrohe). The Spaniard countered an early start by the Brit, just like in his best days.

Lutsenko is the new overall leader

Improved in the overall standings Alejandro Valverde in 17th place. Due to the time trial, he was already too far behind days earlier. Completely different Alexis Lutsenko (Astana – Premier Tech). The Kazakh is the new overall leader because he crossed the finish line today without losing any time. The previous leader Lukas Postlberger As expected, (Bora – hansgrohe) from Austria lost several minutes today. For this, his teammate and compatriot Patrick Conrad presented in a strong form and worked its way up to seventh place in the overall rankings.
