Ewan wins his fourth Giro stage

As expected, there was a bunch sprint on the fifth stage of the Giro d'Italia in Cattolica today. The favorite Australian was able to win Caleb ewan (Lotto – Soudal) prevail. After one success in 2017 and two in 2019, he celebrates his fourth stage win in the Tour of Italy. Second in stage again James Nizzolo (Qhubeka-Assos). The Italian European champion is still waiting for his first stage win at the Giro d'Italia. He has already been narrowly beaten 11 times. The podium completes Elia Viviani (Cofidis). The Italian remains the overall leader Alessandro De Marchi (Israel Start Up Nation)

Chance outliers

Although a mass sprint seemed almost inevitable, some drivers went on the offensive today. First sat down right after the start in Modena Filippo Tagliani (Androni Giocattoli – Sidermec) and Umberto Marengo (Bardiani – CSF – Faizanè) an Italian duo. After gaining a lead of more than 5 minutes in the meantime, they were caught up again around the middle of the stage. Then the Swiss sat down Simon Pellaud (Androni Giocattoli – Sidermec) and the Italian Davide Gabburo (Bardiani – CSF – Faizanè) from. Later the French did Alexis Gougeard (AG2R – Citroen) from the duo a trio. But it didn't help. The fast men's teams caused a mass sprint in Cattolica after 177 kilometers.

Landa falls and gets out

The Russian reached with a few minutes behind Pavel Shivakov (Ineos Grenadiers) the goal. He fell about 15 kilometers from the end and seemed to be suffering mainly from back pain. It got even worse Mikel Landa (Bahrain-Victorious). The Spanish classification rider fell badly and had to leave the Giro d'Italia. Was able to save himself to the finish Joe Dombrowski (UAE), who won the stage yesterday and wore a mountain jersey today.
