Cycling: Thomas Pidcock surprisingly won the Brabant Arrow. The young Brit prevailed in the sprint of a trio and can look forward to his first major victory as a professional on the road.
Pidcock sprints away from Aert & Trentin
Probably nobody would have expected that. Together with Matteo Trentin (UAE) and wout van aert (Jumbo – Visma) bent thomas pidcock (Ineos Grenadiers) on the home straight. But instead of surrendering to his fate as an outsider, the Brit played the tactical card and cooked off the two sprinters ice-cold and ultimately sovereign. The 61st Brabantse Pijl – La Flèche Brabançonne goes to the 21-year-old, who today celebrates the biggest success of his career so far. Just behind the trio succeeds Ide Schelling (Bora – hansgrohe) with fourth place a respectable success. The German also mastered the bumpy 201,7-kilometer one-day race from Leuven to Overijse Marcus Burghardt (Bora – hansgrohe) as 19th with bravura.
🇧🇪# BP21 ¡Tom Pidcock (IGD) is as good as Pro with a great triunfo in the Flecha Brabanzona! 🏆
The young Británico was confident in the sprint, he was on the road of Van Aert and he was rebasing with great clarity in the final of the Belgian classic.
