Whether as a pack mule for parcel services, traders or families, the area of application is extremely diverse. Due to the higher weight, the possible load capacity and the stronger lateral forces, the demands on the material and the tires are of course also higher. With the pick-up, Schwalbe now offers a special tire for cargo bikes.
Based on a double carcass construction with five layers on the side and six layers under the tread, the new tire should remain stable and manoeuvrable even under load, guarantee braking traction and grip and also offer high puncture resistance and durability. Stefan Franken, Schwalbe Product Manager Tour and E-Bike Tires, explains: "The carcass offers outstanding protection for the sidewalls against cuts and significant stabilization of the entire tire at a high, safe level, without the tire having to with system weights of 200 to 300 kilograms becomes spongy". He himself places the Schwalbe pick-up at 6+ on the puncture protection scale - only the Marathon Plus and the Marathon E-Plus with level 7 offer even higher puncture protection.
The profile of the Schwalbe Pick-Up was designed by the tire developers for versatility. The center blocks form a slightly rolling middle segment, while the strong shoulder and transition blocks are intended to ensure safe cornering and braking traction on all surfaces. According to Schwalbe, the special Addix-E compound offers extremely high grip with large loads, in order to enable secure grip even in curves or in wet conditions and to transfer the braking forces directly to the ground. At the same time, it should have high wear resistance with optimal rolling behavior. The tire comes with ECE-R75 certification and is suitable for all e-cargo bikes up to 25 and 50 km/h, the price is 39,90 euros.
