Lucinda Brand wins at Dutch podium
After an impressive season Lucinda Brand as a favorite in the women's cyclocross world championships. Today she capped her impressive season on wet roads, in deep mud and on the beautiful beach of Ostend. But it shouldn't be that easy for her. And that despite the fact that her strongest opponent - the defending champion Ceylin Carmen del Alvarado โ fell in the first corner. Today she was challenged by Denise Betsema and Anne Marie Worst. Especially the former made life difficult for her for a long time, as she was able to open up a gap right at the beginning and was only caught up again after two laps. Finally it came to the Dutch triathlon, which could hardly have been more exciting.
Good technique was the key to success
A lap before the end decided Lucinda Brand surprising for a wheel change. She was able to quickly make up for the few seconds she lost. Then she blew the attack. Denise Betsema had to let go after another fall and just couldn't get close. Anne Marie Worst however, realized in the last lap that she is equal to the favorite and could actually become world champion today. But in the end 8 seconds should be missing. In a tight right turn went Lucinda Brand inside on Anne Marie Worst over. This fell and the race was decided. 19 seconds behind the winner Denise Betsema the goal. The best German drove to a strong 9th place Elizabeth Brandau.
