Free tool for lockdown cycling : With Canvayo, the 15 km radius is no problem

22 January 2021 by the editorial office

Spectrum: Even if the corona numbers are declining in most regions of Germany, the lockdown will remain in place in many regions until at least mid-February. The 15-km rule still applies in the hotspots – if you still want to saddle up there, you will now find some helpful tools for tour planning – such as Canvayo.

We recently reported on the impact of the 15km rule on cycling. Now we have actually found a tool that you can use to map your cycle routes to the Compliance with the 15 km rule can check.

How exactly is the 15 km rule to be understood in hotspots?

reached the 7-day incidence in a region reaches the 200-case mark, the 15-km rule comes into effect. This means that you are not allowed to move more than 15 kilometers from your place of residence in your free time. However, this does not mean your house.

The The 15 km rule applies from the town limits. Strictly speaking, it does not necessarily end with the development, but at the district boundary, which can also be in the middle of the forest. So the radius for your tours is larger than you think and by no means circular around your home.

Route matching with Canvayo

In our last article on the subject, we already have that CalcMaps tool vorgestellt. However, this could only draw a circle around your residence. District boundaries are not taken into account in this tool. It is also not possible to compare them with cycle routes.

Some of you are probably familiar with the Canvayo site. As if the developers smelled it, they recently gave the site a handy 15km calculator. Simply call up the 15 km calculator in your web browser. Then enter your place of residence in the search mask.

As if by magic, your movement radius appears, extending around the borders of your hometown. And the best: You can upload your routes saved as a GPX file directly via the browser. So you can see directly in which areas you are exceeding your movement radius and can adjust the route immediately.

The tool is not only useful in Corona times. The Canvayo calculator is also extremely useful if you don't want to be too far away from your home town because of your work with the volunteer fire brigade (keyword: geofence for alerting).
