Test / accessories: With the Scott Trail Protect you have several functions up your sleeve. A backpack with enough storage space for a day trip, a D3O back protector for off-road protection and a detachable main compartment so that you can only use it as a protective vest.
The Swiss seem to be targeting several groups with their Trail Protect backpack. With 20 L, the trail backpack offers enough storage space for day trips, but after removing the main compartment, it can also be used very quickly as the perfect back protector with storage space in the bike park. A well thought-out backpack with many integrated features and an interesting design idea.

Polyester and honeycomb look
The look of the Scott Trail Protect is kept simple and does without a lot of frills like small side pockets and straps. The finish is slightly shiny and we don't like it that much because it looks a bit like a gym bag. The Trail Protect is also available in two other colors: arctic blue and dark grey/white. The upper is 100% polyamide; the lining made of 100% polyester.
TÜV-certified back protector
The fully integrated and TÜV-certified D3O multi-impact back protector provides sufficient protection. The honeycomb look of the protector is used for moisture management and the plastically shaped back nestles comfortably against the back. We only see the hygiene of the completely sewn-in D3O material as somewhat difficult, since the honeycombs can definitely serve as dirt traps and are difficult to clean.
If you want a 2-in-1 product, you've come to the right place. If you are out and about on your local routes, go on a tour or do your laps in the nearest trail center, you can use the Trail Protect in its original form. However, if you go to the park and you can do without the 15L main pocket, you can remove it and convert the backpack into a protector vest with 5L storage space.
The helmet carrying system is also clever. If you don't want to wear your helmet on your head or on the handlebars when going uphill, you can remove the shoulder straps hidden on the side and attach a half-shell or full-face helmet. The whole thing is also possible with the main compartment removed.
In the bottom of the backpack is the supplied rain cover, which can be easily removed and quickly attached thanks to the elastic band. Of course, this is also possible without a major.
The detachable main compartment has a tool pocket on the front, which features handy mesh pockets for organizing tools, pump and spares. The large compartment offers space for a rain jacket, food and a hydration bladder. The latter can also be used when the main compartment is removed and offers storage space for smartphones and keys with the small mesh pocket.
