Jack Wolfskin Atlas Tour JKT: test and draw

6 December 2020 by the editorial office

Raffle/test: A rain jacket is the be-all and end-all for long tours and one of the most important things you need to pack when the weather is bad. Many manufacturers have brought many different membrane materials onto the market, which cannot be so different and the same. Jack Wolfskin uses a membrane made from 100% recycled materials for the Atlas Tour. That not only protects the environment, but also keeps tight?

Reflective details such as the Jack Wolfskin logo can be found around the jacket.

The primary goal of a rain jacket is to keep the clothes and body dry underneath, but with detailed features such as the reflective prints all around the jacket, the Jack Wolfskin Atlas JKT also scores with additional safety. But the rest of the jacket also seems to be well thought out and practical.

Material and workmanship

When it comes to the material, Jack Wolfskin relies on 100% recycled fabric and uses it to develop its own “membrane” Texapore Ecosphere. This layer between the outer material and the inner lining is 100% waterproof and should also be extremely breathable. The test in the shower and the use on the autumn bike ride can only partially agree with that. The shower test was passed with flying colours, because no water penetrated the crucial seam points or material transitions. But when it comes to breathability, some competing membranes offer a little more breathability.

Pleasant on the face. The soft hem at the upper end of the zipper is very comfortable.
Practical, an inside pocket for everything that needs to stay dry.

comfort

Despite the perceived low vapor permeability to the outside, the jacket was the ideal companion for our autumn tour, because it never got cold with the windproof shell, and body heat escaped only slowly, so the onion layers underneath had to be quickly removed, which reduced riding comfort clearly lifted. Thanks to the mesh fabric on the inside, the jacket is also very comfortable to wear for t-shirt riders. The outer material is also relatively soft and flexible compared to other hard shell jackets, which underlines the freedom of movement with the jacket.

"Form follows function" or the other way around? The product developers at Jack Wolfskin have done a great job with the Atlas Tour JKT, because function and form definitely go hand in hand here. The zip on the jacket closes neatly at the top and the chin area has a very soft structure, which is very comfortable.

Fits wobbles and has air. The Jack Wolfskin Atlas JKT is cut in such a way that a helmet fits perfectly under the hood. Depending on the size of the head, helmet and neck, the hood can be adjusted using an elastic band. If you sit on the bike with your head protection on, it doesn't restrict it in any way. The full freedom of movement is fully retained thanks to generous dimensions.

The Jack Wolfskin Atlas JKT is an excellent rain jacket for extensive tours. Even if you can sweat under the jacket in summer. Because the Atlas JKT does not have any additional ventilation openings and, compared to other membranes, it is not quite as breathable as one might expect. Nevertheless, from our point of view it is a purchase recommendation, not only for the small purse. Quality-conscious touring cyclists will also enjoy the jacket.
