Product news: Classic look or modern technology? Children's bike expert Puky is moving in both directions with its 2021 models and is thus making even more mobility offers for small cyclists. We took a detailed look at the Puky 2021 models.
There is a lot going on at Puky in Wülfrath in North Rhine-Westphalia: The traditional brand has modernized its portfolio significantly and is starting the 2021 season with completely new models and a fresh look. And even the little ones will benefit from this: From now on, selected Puky wheels will also be available in one The beautiful "Classic" version is available, powder coated in three pastel shades and equipped with whitewall tires and a handlebar basket made of plastic mesh.
The LR M Classic for children from the age of two has the typical Puky features such as impact protection and side stands; The LR XL Classic for three-year-olds also has a colour-coordinated bell fitted. As the LR XL BR Classic, this model is also available with rim brakes at the rear. The pretty wicker basket is also available separately if an "existing wheel" is to be retrofitted.
The range of children's bikes from 2021 to 12 inches has been completely revised at Puky 18. Children who have outgrown the balance bike can stay true to the retro look of the "Classic" models - with the children's bikes from the "Steel Classic" series, which are available in 12, 26 and 18 inches. Equipped with a back pedal and V-brake at the front, the three bikes correspond to the new "Steel" models; unlike these, they offer a ratchet strap on the luggage rack and the already mentioned braided basket in the front. "Steel Classic" and "Steel" are equipped with impact protection and full chain protection for all-round safety; Which series the little cyclists choose is therefore only a matter of taste.
All-round model Youke and sporty Cyke
Proven function, contemporary low weight - this is how you could describe the three "Youke" models with 12, 16 and 18 inches. Its aluminum frame brings significant weight savings: 700 grams for the 1,3-inch wheel, 16 kg for the 1,6-inch wheel and a whopping 18 kg for the 30-inch wheel. At XNUMX euros compared to the steel model, the additional price is moderate - with dad's racing bike or mom's mountain bike, a kilo less material can sometimes require additional costs in the upper three-digit range.
Sporty things continue with the new models of the Cyke series. This was expanded to include two bikes with 16 and 18 inches - without lighting system and carrier and with short mudguards, weight-optimized, but thanks to full chain protection as safe as always with Puky. And something else is new here: In addition to the coaster models with and without three-speed gears, a variant with a freewheel and two rim brakes is also available. Puky speaks of intuitive operation thanks to the gripping reflex; behind it lies the realization that resignation is on the wane. Choices when it comes to the braking system are always very welcome.
Puky 2021 still with scooters
The absolute classic among the toy vehicles from Puky has always been the scooter. Its large range was recently expanded to include a particularly sporty variant called Speed Us, which combines elements of the popular folding scooter – extendable handlebar mast and folding joint – with the typical properties of the robust stunt scooter, such as an aluminum profile as a footboard and stable welded joints. As the Speed Us One, the scooter comes with plastic wheels and foam tires; the Speed US Two is equipped with aluminum rims and pneumatic tires. Drivers should not be younger than five years and shorter than 115 cm; with a load capacity of 100 kilos and handlebars that can be extended far enough for two-metre-high people, there are no limits on the other side of the age spectrum.
The fact that Puky is increasingly offering models without full equipment is also noticeable in the range of accessories: fender sets and luggage racks can now be purchased for bikes with 16 to 24 inches. In this way, a sporty bike can be made fit for everyday use with little effort - be it temporarily, for example for a longer tour, or permanently. On the other hand, the aforementioned basket and a girly doll seat, which should definitely be available in blue, have a more playful character - for little boys who want to play daddy...
