Radcross: After the European Championships, there were two small surprises in the Superprestige in Niel. While Laurens Sweeck triumphed in the men's category, Lucinda Brand won in the women's category.
In the sand, Sweeck beats the favorites
The sandy passage was to be the deciding factor in the third Superprestige men's race. After Lauren's Sweeck already signaled during the first crossing that he could hardly be stopped, he launched the final attack against his remaining companions in the last lap. With 5 or 24 seconds, the Belgian champion was able to beat his compatriots Eli Iserbyt and Toon Aerts leave behind.
Lauren's Sweeck:
“That passage was my strong point. I knew I could make the difference there.”
Eli Iserbyt:
“It was a very difficult course. I think I was third best in the race after Laurens and Toon. I have reached the maximum.”

Brand succeeds in getting revenge for the European Championship race
Within the European Championship saw a few days ago Lucinda Brand strong as a bear. Nevertheless, she had to settle for third place. Today she should be able to get her revenge in Niel. But like at the European Championships, she had to catch up from a deficit – this time because of a wheel change. After she succeeded, she won the sprint against world and European champion Ceylin del Carmen Alvarado and Denise Betsema. This means that the Dutch women continue to dominate at will.
Lucinda Brand:
“I changed bikes at the beginning and thought everyone would do that. But they didn't. As a result, I was far behind and had to catch up a lot.”
Ceylin del Carmen Alvarado:
“I should have started the sprint from the beginning. But I expected it to be tough against Lucinda on that uphill stretch. I couldn't leave today. I was really broken.
