Giro d'Italia #1: Filippo Ganna takes the stage win and Rosa

Filippo Ganna Giro d'Italia

Cycling: As expected, top favorite Filippo Ganna won the opening time trial of the Giro d'Italia. With an impressive performance, the reigning world champion left João Almeida behind by a clear 22 seconds.

Filippo Ganna lives up to his role as favourite

Filippo Gana (Ineos) is simply unbeatable in the fight against the clock at the moment. The world champion from Italy confidently won the opening time trial of the Giro d'Italia on Saturday. He raced over the 15,1-kilometer high-speed course at an average speed of 58,831 km/h. The Portuguese finished 22 seconds slower but still strong View All (Deceuninck – Quick-Step) at the same time in front of the Dane Mikkel Bjerg (UAE). Has put itself in a good position Geraint Thomas (Ineos), who was already able to gain a good lead over his competitors in fourth place.

Miguel Angel Lopez crashes into the barrier

The Giro d'Italia has already ended for co-favourite Miguel Angel Lopez (Astana). The Colombian took one hand off the handlebars to shift gears and just then missed a pothole. He then crashed into the road barrier at high speed and then had to be hospitalized.

Rick Zabel conquers the mountain jersey

Surprisingly the mountain jersey is allowed tomorrow Rick Zabel (Israel Start-Up Nation) for a walk. The German sprinter set the best time in the only climb of the day and thus leads the ranking. Also this tactic is driven Peter Sagan (Bora – hansgrohe). But the Slovak just missed Rick Zabel's best time. This action is reminiscent of Marcel Wüst at the Tour de France in 2000.
