Cycling: Julian Alaphilippe is celebrating again - and rightly so this time. The French world champion left last year's winner Mathieu van der Poel behind in the Brabant arrow. In the women's category, the young German Liane Lippert was convincing again as second.
Hard fight at Brabant Arrow
Traditionally, the Brabant arrow went up and down again and again today. The 197,0-kilometer one-day race, starting in Leuven and finishing in Overijse, was held for the 2020th time in 60. But the contenders didn't want to give anything away. Again and again it rained down attacks, so that the race was extremely tough. Finally, the two French were able to Benoit Cosnefroy (AG2R La Mondiale) and Julian Alaphilippe (Deceuninck – Quick-Step), as well as the Dutch champion and last year's winner Mathieu van der Poel (Alpecin – Fenix) just under ten kilometers from the finish. Behind them the helpers worked Sonny Colbrelli (Bahrain – McLaren) to create the merger again. But they came too late.
Alaphilippe keeps his nerve and wins
The trio should decide the victory among themselves. Benoit Cosnefroy started the sprint early to have a chance at all against the two fast sprinters. But they were not surprised. Julian Alaphilippe passed his compatriot and built with it Mathieu van der Poel something a. The Dutchman pulled up but was too late. Alaphilippe managed to get revenge after losing to Van der Poel in a similar position last year.

Ladies: Liane Lippert is a strong second
For the fifth time in history, the Brabant Arrow was also held for women. After starting in Sint-Kwintens-Lennik, the women had to cover 121,9 kilometers to the finish in Overijse. underlined Liana Lippert (Sunweb) regained their strong form. The 22-year-old German only had to beat the Australian winner by 47 seconds grace brown (Mitchelton – Scott) defeated. Her teammate was third Floortje Mackaij (Sunweb) from the Netherlands.
