Caleb Ewan Tour de France 2020 stages

Mühlberger has to give up

Today's eleventh stage of the Tour de France started in Châtelaillon-Plage. She led the field over 167,5 kilometers to the finish in Poitiers. As was to be expected, the section should be rather uneventful. With Matthieu Ladagnous (Groupama – FDJ) the viewers only got to see one outlier. The Frenchman was able to gain a few minutes' lead, but ultimately had no chance of winning the stage. After all, he was given the only mountain classification of the day and the sprint classification. Out of the peloton secured himself Sam Bennett (Deceuninck – Quick-Step) ahead of teammate Michael Morkov (Deceuninck – Quick Step) and Peter Sagan (Bora – hansgrohe) Second place and was able to extend his lead in the fight for the green jersey. Didn't have a nice day Gregor Muehlberger (Bora – hansgrohe). The Austrian appears to have fallen ill yesterday and had to retire from the Tour de France during today's stage.

Late attack by Pöstlberger

Way before the finish was the venture of runaway Matthieu Ladagnous completed. Shortly thereafter, the peloton fell against a house wall. It hit hard Jon Izagirre (Astana). The Spaniard was bleeding from the face and was unable to continue. Tried to prevent the mass sprint in Poitiers Lukas Postlberger (Bora – hansgrohe). The Austrian launched an attack with 6,0 kilometers to go, primarily to put Deceuninck – Quick-Step under pressure. But the men of Sam Bennett reacted confidently. With Bob jungels and Kasper Asgreen they immediately sent two watchers along. But NTT and Lotto - Soudal reacted and caught the trio again with 2,1 kilometers to go. As a result, important helpers were eliminated before the start of the mass sprint.

Caleb Ewan wins by millimeters

The mass sprint on the very long and wide home stretch was tough. Early in the Wind, became the two-time stage winner wout van aert (Jumbo – Visma) sprinted over by three men. The finish photo had to decide which of these three colleagues won. Caleb ewan (Lotto – Soudal) cheered – and was right. The small Australian won by a few millimeters Peter Sagan (Bora – hansgrohe) and Sam Bennett (Deceuninck - Quick Step). With that, the Slovak reduced the gap to the Irishman in the points classification to 15 points. However, he did so with a very risky manoeuvre. When he passed Wout van Aert, he leaned his head against him. The jury will probably still examine these pictures at the moment.
