Shimano ounces: New performance backpack including hydration bladder

August 20, 2020 by the editorial office

Backpacks: Which bike backpack is the right one? Regardless of whether it is a day trip or a multi-day trip, the right backpack must offer enough storage space and it must not be too heavy. The back system should nestle comfortably against the back, but at the same time be breathable. The carrying system must not chafe or constrict and must hold the backpack in place. With the Unzen series, Shimano offers the right choice for mountain bikers who are looking for the next bike adventure.

Thanks to its stable fit and the tried-and-tested X-Harness carrying system, the Unzen not only fits perfectly, but also impresses with its extraordinarily good freedom of movement. It is available in capacities from 2 to 14 liters and comes complete with a 2 (2 and 6L ounce) or 3L (10 and 14L ounce) reservoir.

Shimano Unzen: Easily adjustable

Ultralight X-Harness straps - Type B on the Unzen 2 - keep this short 2L backpack comfortable and secure without unnecessary materials and bulk. A waist belt provides additional security. The longer and larger 6, 10 and 14 liter models feature the Type A X-Harness harness system with a wide harness construction on the undersides for heavier loads and optimized stability and maximum comfort on the bike.

These models are also equipped with an additional hip belt. The special feature of this flexible system: it can be adjusted to the individual height of every cyclist in three short, simple steps. In the back of the backpack, the position of the carrying system can be adjusted according to body size using the Velcro fastener. This is followed by the adjustment of the lower shoulder straps and the position of the belt hook, which can be adjusted tighter or wider depending on the driving situation.

Shimano Unzen: well thought-out details

The revised, ergonomic air mesh back panel provides improved ventilation compared to the previous model. In addition, the Unzen offers plenty of storage space with a lined fleece pocket, a front pocket, shoulder strap pockets and side pockets (except in the 2 liter version). Thanks to the practical tool organization system, the necessary tools can be accommodated easily and flexibly. Other well thought-out features include helmet, protector, key and goggle holders. This way they can be stored safely when they are not needed.

If it's just a short rain shower, the water-repellent material and the zipper keep the contents of the backpack dry. The easy side access provides quick access, the zipper of which, thanks to the large loops, can be opened and closed without any problems even with gloves.
