Cycling: Richard Carapaz won the third leg of the Tour of Poland. The Ecuadorian was able to assert himself against the competition with a long sprint and take the overall lead.

No chance for the escapees
Today at the Tour of Poland it was the first time for the classification riders to get down to business. On the 203,1-kilometer stage from Wadowice to Bielsko-Biala, there were no high mountains awaiting the pros, but there were still seven climbs to be completed. The wavy circuit - 3x 7,2 kilometers - should also provide excitement with its uphill finish. At first, however, the runaways dominated daily events as usual. With the Poles Kamil Gradek (CCC) and Patryk Stosz (national team Poland), as well as the French Quentin Jauregui (AG2R La Mondiale) and the Dutchman Taco van den Hoorn (Jumbo – Visma) a quartet was able to break away from the main field. Unsuccessfully – and somewhat surprisingly – the Dane also got involved early on Jakob Fuglsang (Astana) and the Belgian Thomas de Gendt (Lotto – Soudal) tried. Understandably, however, the competition prevented this advance.
Carapaz in front of Ulissi
In the main draw, the team Deceuninck – Quick-Step took over the command. Due to the high speed, the last of the four escapees was caught 28,0 kilometers before the finish line. Attacked immediately afterwards Nathan Hass (Cofidis). The Australian was able to gain a lead of just over a minute. But then Bora – hansgrohe in the person of Pascal Ackermann the pace suddenly so that Nathan Haas was caught again within a few minutes. Ineos took control in the last few kilometers. An attack by Groupama - FDJ could be thwarted. 300 meters from the finish went suddenly Richard Carapaz (Ineos) out of the saddle. Instead of waiting for a classic sprint, the Ecuadorian went into the wind early - and won. Diego Ulissi (UAE) was late. Richard Carapaz is the new overall leader.
Fabio Jakobsen has woken up from his coma
Away from the sporting side, there is good news to report. The one who fell so badly on the first stage Fabio Jacobsen (Deceuninck – Quick-Step) has woken up from an artificial coma. The Tour de Pologne reported via Twitter. “We have good news from the hospital in Sosowiec. Fabio Jakobsen has now woken up from the coma. His condition is good.” But today there were falls again during the Tour of Poland. It hit me badly on the descent of the Wielka Puszcza climb Michael Delage (Groupama – FDJ). The Frenchman was flown to the hospital in a helicopter. According to his French team, he was conscious.
