Cycling: Max Kanter narrowly missed out on a stage win at the Czech Tour. The German professional from Team Sunweb finished third on the second section.
Kanter behind Meeus and Merlier on rank 3
Yesterday's team time trial was a clear affair for the Australian team Mitchelton - Scott. Accordingly, the team around Leader Luke Durbridge start the second day of the Czech Tour. From 12:00 p.m., 193,7 kilometers had to be covered from Prostejov to Unicov. Although the first half of the three climb section can be described as undulating, the stage was classified as flat. Since the last 50 kilometers were completely flat, today was perfect for the sprinters. It came to a Belgian double victory. Jordy Meeus (SEG Racing Academy) won before Tim Merlier (Alpecin-Fenix). The German was a strong third Max Kanter (Sunweb). Behind them there was a gap of one second.
Can someone else catch Mitchelton-Scott?
For the pure sprinters, the chapter of the Czech Tour 2020 should end today. The last two stages on Saturday and Sunday are more of a puncheur. In Frýdek-Místek and in Šternberk the overall ranking will be decided. We can be curious to see which professional from the Mitchelton - Scott team has the confidence of his teammates and can perhaps defend the lead from the team time trial. Lucas Hamilton and Damien Howson this is definitely to be trusted. But maybe the Germans can too Nico Denz (Sunweb) or the Austrian Lukas Postlberger (Bora – hansgrohe) make the fight for the podium exciting again.
