Cycling: It's finally that time again. The WorldTour season is getting rolling again after the Corona break. On Saturday, the Strade Bianche one-day race will see the long-awaited restart.
Strade Bianche: THE race of the year for many
Although the Strade Bianche is not one of the five great monuments of cycling, it is THE highlight of a season for many fans and riders. The dirt roads make for fantastic pictures, either through the swirling white dust or the uncomfortable mud. As history has taught us, apart from the final ramp in Siena, of course, there is no fixed route for the decision. The (preliminary) decision can be made at any time. We remember the fantastiesje Solo by Tiesj Benoot, the fabulous Comeback of Wout van Aert and of course the three victories of the Swiss Fabian Cancellara.
Start list 2020: Alaphilippe, Sagan & Van der Poel
184 kilometers have to be covered at the Strade Bianche 2020. After starting in Siena, a southbound counter-clockwise loop takes the pros back to Piazza del Campo. If several drivers are still together a few kilometers before the finish, only one extremely strong puncher can win the race. The start list promises a first-class race again this season. The Strade Bianche 2020 may even be as busy as never before. All former winners who have not yet ended their careers are at the start. Last year's winner Julian Alaphilippe (Deceuninck - Quick-Step) is considered the top favorite alongside Mathieu van der Poel (Alpecin - Fenix). We can also be excited about Peter Sagan (Bora – hansgrohe), who has already come second twice here, but has never won.
Live on Eurosport and in the Eurosport Player
Cycling fans shouldn't miss the Strade Bianche on Saturday. The race from the previous year will be shown on Eurosport and in the Eurosport Player from 15:30 p.m. You will then be shown a brief summary of the 2020 women's race. At 16:50 p.m. the station will switch live to the men's race.
