Cycling: He still can! Alberto Contador broke Lachlan Morton's record for Everesting. After 7:27:20 hours, the Spaniard was almost 2:37 minutes faster than the Australian.
Contador has completed the Everesting madness
Alberto Contador covered 8.848 meters in altitude on his bike in a time of 7:27:20 hours. The Spaniard broke the recent record set by Lachlan Morton (EF Education First) in Everesting. Although the now 37-year-old ended his 15-year career in 2017, he still seems to be in top shape. He improved the Australian's reigning world record by a full 2:37 minutes. For this, Alberto Contador has located the Navapelegrín climb near Segovia north of Madrid. He drove up and down the steepest section of the 78 kilometer long mountain a whopping 6,8 times. He covered around 140 kilometers.
Alberto Contador:
“We wanted to test material and verify behavior in very specific environments. So we pushed it to the limit. The other day we joked about the challenge of Everesting Challenge and many comments encouraged us to do it.”
The record on Strava was also broken
In addition to the new record in Everesting, Alberto Contador can also be happy to have broken the Strava KOM for the Parte Finale - Silla del Rey segment. With his time of 3:49 minutes he was a whopping 36 seconds faster. On average, he pedaled 268 watts. But the Spaniard wasn't just out breaking records. Actually, he mainly wanted to test new material. After a few conversations about Everesting, Alberto Contador finally went into the idea with great motivation. The Spaniard was never satisfied with mediocrity during his career. Among other things, he won seven major national tours.
Alberto Contador:
"Everesting madness complete! Your letters have encouraged me to do so. It was a very demanding challenge. But a very nice experience. We'll do the next one together!"
Locura de Everesting complete, gracias a vuestros mensajes me animé y lo hice, más de seven horas pedaleando y 8848 metros ascendidos. Reto muy exigente pero una experiencia muy bonita. El próximo lo hacemos juntos!
