Track cycling: Emma Hinze won her third gold medal at the Track Cycling World Championships in Berlin. The 22-year-old also triumphed in the keirin and, as a three-time world champion, was finally crowned Queen of Berlin.
Germany narrowly missed victory in the medal table
The BDR can look forward to medals on the last day of the Track Cycling World Championships. While the men's sprint was still one affair for the Dutch - Harrie Lavreysen won ahead of Jeffrey Hoogland - the Germans had one hot iron in the fire - actually two - in the Madison. For Roger Kluge and Theo Reinhardt, third place was just about enough. In a different league, the Danes Lasse Norman Hansen and Michael Morkov easily won gold ahead of the New Zealanders Campbell Stewart and Aaron Gate. Emma Hinze once again provided the highlight for the German fans. In the keirin, she won her third gold medal at this World Championships, ahead of Hyejin Lee of Korea and Stephanie Morton of Australia. Germany now has four gold medals, one silver medal and three bronze medals. Only the Dutch were better with an impressive record of 6-2-1.
8 world records in the Berlin Velodrome
The spectators of the Track Cycling World Championships got to see eight new world records in the Berlin Velodrome. The performance of the Danes in the team pursuit was particularly impressive. The red-white foursome broke the old record of 3:48,012 three times. Even the 3:46,579 in qualifying seemed like a new milestone. But then they pulverized their record to a 3:46,203 and later even to a 3:44,672 in the final. The time stopped around three and a half seconds earlier than the record before the World Cup. In the men's team sprint, the Dutch set two new records, which means that the 41,225 has now entered the history books as a new world record. In the individual pursuit, Filippo Ganna set a new record of almost eight tenths with a 4:01,934. And there is also a new world record for women. Chloé Dygert was a whopping three seconds faster than ever in the individual pursuit.
