Kuurne – Brussels – Kuurne: Moscon disqualified for unsportsmanlike conduct

March 1, 2020 by Michael Behringer

Moscon Kuurne

Cycling: Gianni Moscon (Ineos) has once again made negative headlines. The Italian was disqualified in today's semi-classic Kuurne - Brussels - Kuurne. As a multiple repeat offender, he may now face a severe punishment.

Moscon throws wheel at opponents

For Gianni Moscon (Ineos), the semi-classic Kuurne – Brussels – Kuurne ended 65 kilometers from the finish. The Italian was disqualified for aggressive behavior and consequently taken out of the race. As TV recordings show, Gianni Moscon got so upset after a fall that he threw an opponent's bicycle at a professional from the B&B Hotels – Vital Concept team.

He's been negative on a number of occasions

Again and again Gianni Moscon. The Italian has not attracted negative attention for the first time. Because of one Punching at the Tour de France the UCI has already banned him for five weeks. A few months earlier he was arrested in another case for lack of evidence acquitted. He is said to have caused Sébastien Reichenbach (Groupama – FDJ) to fall. However, the whole topic already has one longer history. Because the Swiss testified – again a few weeks earlier – against the Italian. According to Reichenbach, Moscon racially insulted Kévin Réza (Groupama – FDJ). In addition, at the World Championships two years ago, Gianni Moscon held on to an escort vehicle for so long that he had to be disqualified after the race. So the Moscon file is quite a few pages long...
