Track Cycling World Championships in Berlin: Emma Hinze races to the next gold medal in the sprint

February 28, 2020 by Michael Behringer

Emma Hinze Track Cycling World Championships

Cycling: Emma Hinze won her next gold medal at the Track Cycling World Championships in Berlin. The 22-year-old was unstoppable in the women's sprint.

Emma Hinze is happy about her second gold medal

The day before yesterday in the team sprint, today in the sprint: Emma Hinze was crowned world champion for the second time in the Berlin Velodrome. On the fast track, the 22-year-old didn't give Wai Sze Lee from Hong Kong a chance in the semifinals and Anastasiia Voinova from Russia in the final. She was again responsible for the only German medal of the day. Ultimately, there were no Germans and Austrians at the start in the women's omnium. At the end of the third day of competition, Andrea Waldis from Switzerland only came in 18th. Gold went to Japan's Yumi Kajihara.

No medals for German speaking gentlemen

In the three men's races, the riders from German-speaking nations came away empty-handed today. With the victory of the Dutchman Sam Ligtlee in the 1.000 Maximilian Dornbach finished 6th in the 10-meter time trial. New Zealander Corbin Strong won the points race. Cyrille Thiery of Switzerland, Moritz Malcharek of Germany, and Stean Mastaller of Austria had to settle for 13th, 19th, and XNUMXth places, respectively.

In the individual pursuit it got tight again – and record-breaking. Because while the Italian Filippo Ganna set a new record with a fantastic time of 4:01,934, the German-speaking pros just missed the podium. The Germans Felix Gross and Domenic Weinstein finished 5th and 9th. The Swiss Stefan Bissegger and Claudio Imhof finished 6th and 7th.
