Groves celebrates victory in mass sprint

Caden Groves (Mitchelton – Scott) gave his Australian team their first win of the season outside of the domestic championships. The only 21-year-old Australian left the Italian in a mass sprint Alberto Dainese (Sunweb) and the Estonians Michael Raim (Israel Start-Up Nation) behind. Despite great preparatory work - including by Jonas slip (EF), who led his teammates to the one kilometer mark - remained a sprinter Moreno Hofland (EF) only fourth place. In the overall standings, there were no changes in the front positions.

Breakaways from Canada and Australia have no chance

The Australians initially dominated the racing action James Whelan (EF) and Carter Turnbull (KordaMentha), as well as the Canadians Guillaume Boivin (Israel Start-Up Nation) and Charles-Etienne Chrétien (Aevolo). But the breakaway quartet should ultimately not have a realistic chance of winning the day. After 178,1 kilometers from Bright to Wangaratta, the expected mass sprint took place.
