Saudi Tour #2: Haussler & Bauhaus narrowly beaten by Bonifazio

5. February 2020 by Michael Behringer

Cycling: Again Heinrich Haussler (Bahrain – McLaren) narrowly missed out on a stage win at the Saudi Tour – this time as an attacker within the last kilometer. In the end, his companion Niccolò Bonifazio (Total Direct Energie) was allowed to celebrate. Phil Bauhaus (Bahrain – McLaren) sprinted out of the field late and finished second.

Again no luck for Heinrich Haussler

Once again there was no classic mass sprint at the Saudi Tour. After 182,0 kilometers from Sadus Castle to Riyadh, however, he was allowed to come along Niccolo Bonifazio (Total Direct Energie) but a sprinter was happy about the day's victory. The Italian followed a clever attack from within the last kilometer Heinrich Haussler (Bahrain-McLaren). He was unsuccessful today as well. Although the Australian was initially favored by the slipstream of the camera motorcycle, he was later slowed down by a security motorcycle. Out of his slipstream, the eventual stage winner pulled out with momentum for the final attack. Haussler could no longer follow. Behind them, the field almost sprinted up to Bonifazio. But in the end they were missing Phil Bauhaus (Bahrain – McLaren) two seconds.

Nikodemus Holler shows up again as a runaway

Overall leader remains yesterday's stage winner Rui Costa (UAE Team Emirates) who finished with the peloton. He is still one second ahead of Heinrich Haussler. Two seconds behind Bouhanni born (Arkea – Samsic). The Frenchman was also third in today's stage. The section helped shape it again Nicodemus Holler (Bike Aid). Like yesterday, the German was part of the breakaway group. However, this was asked about twelve kilometers before the finish.
