Route of the Sol #3: Teuns makes a mistake & Fuglsang wins again

February 21rd 2020 by Michael Behringer

Fuglsang Ruta del Sol

Cycling: Jakob Fuglsang (Astana) has further consolidated his overall lead with his second stage win at the Ruta del Sol. The Dane won the third stage ahead of Pello Bilbao (Bahrain – McLaren).

Hardly any live images for TV viewers

Five climbs had to be mastered today on the 176,9 kilometer route from Jáen to Ubeda. It's just a shame that the TV viewers hardly got to see any of it. Because the Spanish television station had great difficulty in supplying broadcasters from all over the world with live images of the third stage of the Ruta del Sol. The pros on their bikes certainly didn't notice anything. The usual racing events took place in the peloton. First was a breakaway with among others Enric Mas Nicolau (Movistar) and Sylvan Dillier (AG2R La Mondiale) allowed a lead of a few minutes. In the course of the day, however, the teams in the main field organized themselves for tracking work. So it finally came to catch up.

Fuglsang benefits from Teuns' mistake

On the ramp up to the finish line, spectators saw a showdown of the favorites. The Bahrain-McLaren team was particularly active in the closing stages. First tried Mikel Landa (Bahrain – McLaren) also to solve in terms of the general classification. Yes leaders Jakob Fuglsang (Astana) certainly didn't let him go. Then attacked Dylan teuns (Bahrain – McLaren) apparently at the right moment. But in the last corner, the Belgian made a mistake - and his chance of winning was for him as well as for Jack Haig (Mitchelton – Scott) gone. So could Jakob Fuglsang pass easily and win his second stage. Second was in the person of bilbao hair another professional of the Bahrain team – McLaren.
