Test: With the uvex hlmt 10, the long-established company from Fürth is presenting a full-face helmet that is supposed to impress with its low weight and attractive price. We put the 1.020 g light helmet to the test last season in the areas of use intended by Uvex. Above all, we wanted to find out whether an inexpensive, light full-face helmet could provide comparable protection to the top models of the competition.
Uvex
Uvex – that means UltraViolet EXcluded and describes the UV protection of the glasses that were manufactured there in the early days of 1926. In the meantime, the product portfolio has grown significantly - according to the company, all uvex products are characterized by the properties of technological innovation, high wearing comfort and unmistakable design. This applies, among other things, to ski or bicycle helmets cycling glasses, safety shoes or sunglasses from Filtral. The company, initially run as an "Optical Industry Establishment", now employs 2700 people under Michael Winter and his sister Gabriele Grau in the third generation of the family business and runs 48 subsidiaries in 22 countries. The development and production of uvex products are concentrated in Germany and Europe - from the initial idea through research and development to manufacture using the most modern production processes - everything comes from uvex. In this way, the company wants to protect and implement its know-how in the long term.
uvex hlmt 10 & other range
At uvex, the hlmt 10 is the upper end of the flagpole in the mountain bike sector and is intended for use against gravity. He's next to that jakkyl hde 2.0 the only full-face helmet in the Fürther range and is aimed at all types of downhill riders, as well as enduro riders who need maximum protection paired with low weight during racing. All other mountain bikers, from small children to older bikers, are supplied with a total of 35 different helmets at uvex.
uvex hlmt 10 – the helmet for downhill use
Downhill - an extreme sport that requires extreme protection. Uvex is of course aware of this, which is why the company made the uvex hlmt 10 as a full-face helmet, which is still a real lightweight at 1.020g. Thanks to the robust hardshell technology, the full-face helmet should be just as suitable for bike park use as it is for use in downhill races. This construction should offer an almost perfect compromise between stability, safety and low weight. In order to keep a cool head even in the most dangerous situations, the uvex full-face helmet has 13 ventilation openings in the intelligent ventilation system. A well thought-out shape keeps the goggle in place and the adjustable visor that reaches far forward ensures a clear view on the trails. With the uvex hlmt 10, the double-D fastener, which can be operated comfortably with one hand, was used quite conventionally in order to generate maximum safety. Even if the ventilation openings do their job, it is a big advantage of the uvex hlmt 10 that the interior can be completely removed for washing. The hlmt 10 is in the colors black and white-blue and is available in four sizes from 54 to 62cm head circumference (54-56cm, 56-58cm, 58-60cm, 60-62cm). The RRP is a reasonable €149,99.

uvex hlmt 10 – long-term field test
The test went with a model of the hlmt 10 in size XL, i.e. 60-62cm in the color white-blue. The first time you tried it on, it was noticeable that the uvex helmet is relatively small and has a rather narrow cut. The chin bar is quite close to the face, but doesn't restrict vision in any way, but can create a feeling of constriction if you're sensitive here. At the very front of the chin guard there is a tight aluminum mesh, as is also known from other models, which provides the driver with enough air to breathe. The double-D closure can be easily operated with one hand and the push button always remained closed even in extreme situations. The removable inner lining has a pleasant surface and adapts to the contours of the head. Even after washing, it fully retained its form and function. In my case there were no pressure points or the like, but this may vary depending on the person.

With its 10 ventilation ducts and 4 ventilation openings, the uvex hlmt 13 is at the forefront when it comes to ventilation and was able to completely convince me on this point. Even in midsummer, I found the temperature under the helmet to be quite pleasant, especially compared to other full-face helmets. However, I have to admit that bulky, heavy helmets gave a stronger sense of security, at least for me. But after the familiarization phase and the first contact between the helmet and the ground, I put my full trust in the uvex hlmt 10. Now, after a whole season, endless rides and also a few crashes, the helmet is just as it was on the first day, apart from a few small signs of wear. The high-gloss finish of the hlmt 10 ensures that hardly any scratches are visible and also makes it a real eye-catcher.
