Vuelta San Juan #3: Remco Evenepoel is in a class of his own in the time trial

29 January 2020 by Michael Behringer

Evenepol San Juan

Cycling: Remco Evenepoel (Deceuninck – Quick-Step) took his first win of the season in the Vuelta a San Juan time trial. In the fight against the clock, the 20-year-old didn't give the competition the slightest chance. The Belgian also takes the overall lead.

Only Ganna can reasonably keep up

The 15,2-kilometer time trial of the Vuelta a San Juan led from Ullum to Punta Negra. The spectators were presented with a victory for the favorites - albeit with an unexpectedly large gap. Remco Evenepoel (Deceuninck – Quick-Step) should complete the course in an incredible time of 19:16 minutes. Only could keep up with him Filippo Gana (UAE Team Emirates). But the Italian was also 31 seconds behind. The old master secured third place Oscar Seville (Medellin), who at the age of 43 is 1:08 behind Remco Evenepoel, who is 23 years his junior.

Tomorrow the first bumpy stage awaits us at the Vuelta a San Juan before we even head into the mountains after a rest day. Then we can be curious to see how Remco Evenepoel defends the leader's jersey uphill.
