Cycling: Pascal Ackermann (Bora – hansgrohe) just missed his first win of the season. The German lost to Italian Matteo Moschetti (Trek - Segafredo) in the sprint of the Trofeo Ses Salines - Felanitx - the first race of the Mallorca Challenge.
Moschetti was without a win for 17 months
The Trofeo Ses Salines - Felanitx started the Mallorca Challenge today. The Italian won Matteo Moschetti (Trek – Segafredo) before the mass sprint Pascal Ackermann (Bora – hansgrohe) and Jon Aberasturi (Caja Rural – Seguros RGA). On the 170,7 kilometer course from Ses Salines to Felanitx, four mountains of the fourth category had to be conquered, but that didn't stop the sprinters from battling it out for the day's victory in the end.
The Mallorca Challenge is being held for the 29th time and lasts four days. There will be no classic overall ranking at the end of the tour. Rather, the competition consists of four one-day races, to which the teams do not have to send the same drivers every day. Traditionally, the Mallorca Challenge marks the start of the European road bike season. Tomorrow the pros will tackle the Trofeo Alcudia.
Matteo Moschetti wins the first race of Challenge Mallorca ahead of Pascal Ackermann (!!!) and Jon Aberasturi. It seems like a pretty impressive sprint by the young Italian. 👏 #ChallengeMallorca pic.twitter.com/bAedw14NvS
