Advent Calendar 2019 #5: Ortlieb Atrack 35

5 December 2019 by Christian Ettl

Advent calendar / raffle: Ortlieb stands for waterproof bags and backpacks of high quality, made in Germany. The relatively new Atrack is not out of the ordinary, but it is still innovative...

The first waterproof backpack that opens like a holdall? It's probably him... Ortlieb even promises: "A new league for outdoor adventures and short trips! Anyone who's ever been annoyed that what you need right now is at the bottom of your backpack will love the new Atrack!” You'll have to find out for yourself whether that's the case. Our tester Johannes was and is very happy with the Atrack.

The Atrack with a volume of 35 liters costs €189.99. It is available in red, black and mustard, and is also available in 25 and 45 liter volumes. We see it as a multifunctional backpack. It is well suited for many purposes. Whether on a bike, on foot or while travelling.

The Oertlieb Atrack can be opened lengthwise with a zip – like a travel bag – which greatly simplifies packing logistics. Because with the large opening you have a perfect overview of the contents of the backpack - and everything is immediately within reach. The backpack can be placed on the front, so the carrying system always stays clean and dry.
Cumbersome rummaging around and the annoying putting on of a rain cover is a thing of the past! The contents remain absolutely dry! Don't expect anything else, because both the PVC-free nylon material and the Tizip zipper are 100 percent waterproof. Incidentally, the zipper is on the side facing the back, which also protects against unwanted access.
As a well thought-out active travel backpack, it offers a lot of flexibility with just one piece of luggage and convinced our testers when trekking, cycling, ski touring, paddling and all other challenges it faced. It also feels at home in the city and accompanies the owner as luggage on short trips. It is available in three sizes, three colors and with a wide range of accessories so that you can customize it for any adventure in no time at all.
