Product news: BMC Road Innovations 2020 - Fast, beautiful Swiss

19 December 2019 by Florian Nowak

Product news: The Swiss manufacturer BMC has stood for high-quality bikes on every terrain for many years. Be it on the street, track or trail, for professional athletes or passionate hobby riders. The Bike Manufacturing Company or BMC will continue in 2020 where you left off. We have an overview of the popular road and gravel models from BMC Switzerland for you.

BMC Teamachine SLR Disc

The BMC Teammachine SLR Disc is one of the most versatile racing bikes in the professional peloton. Here the machine has already proven its efficiency countless times. From the classics to the Grand Tours, a number of successes can be attributed to the BMC Teammachine. However, such a performance is only possible thanks to first-class properties and a perfect combination of stiffness, weight and comfort. This was made possible, among other things, by the close cooperation with the professional teams supported by BMC Switzerland.

Through consistent further developments down to the smallest detail, the BMC Teammachine SLR Disc has been constantly improved. The top model, the BMC Teammachine SLR01 Disc, consists of 01 premium carbon for the best stiffness, weight and comfort values. With various features, such as the sophisticated ACE Technology, the internally routed cable pulls and the D-shaped seat post, as well as outstanding integration and the light TCC Race Technology, the Teammachine SLR becomes the perfect piece of sports equipment for any ride.

ACE - Technology

With the help of ACE Technology, the time-consuming test and prototype process was reduced from several years to just a few months. Calculation models are used here, which are precisely analysed, evaluated and assessed on the basis of specific criteria. From this, clear performance goals are defined for ACE, which can then be used to analyze thousands of possibilities for potential tube connections, carbon layups and geometries in order to build the best possible bike. This made it possible to use the asymmetrical oversize tube shapes with the help of ACE technology in order to combine minimum weight, best power transmission and first-class comfort.

IC system

At BMC, the aim is not only to perfect the bikes technically but also in terms of design. The innovative approach, the functional integration, did justice to this claim. The Integrated Cockpit System Technology shows a specially developed system that hides the cables from the handlebars to the rear derailleur invisibly in the bike and without compromising on fit or adjustment options. ICS Technology is the world's first fully integrated cockpit solution in the industry. The elegant marriage of form and function also enabled the development of a new standard in frame design.

ICS Aero

The new ICS Aero Cockpit is the latest version of ICS Technology. It minimizes air resistance and thus improves aerodynamic performance without sacrificing adjustment options and usability. The ICS Aero Cockpit features minimal frontal area and full internal cable routing. Thanks to its 2-part construction, there are no restrictions in terms of functionality or fit. Thanks to a wide range of options, the driver can quickly and easily adjust the stem and handlebars at any time.

BMC Teammachine SLR02 Disc Four with Shimano 105 Disc drivetrain and Shimano RS-170 wheelset.

BMC Road Teammachine ALR Disc

As the little brother of the BMC Teammachine SLR Disc, the Teammachine ALR Disc with first-class aluminum performance will also be available in 2020. This is ensured by the size-specific butted Smooth Weld tube shapes, which are in no way inferior to the carbon models in terms of weight and stiffness. The Tuned Compliance Concept Race Technology is based on the ACE carbon fork, the thin seat stays and the D-Shaped seat post, which absorb vibrations from the road and deliver an efficient and dynamic driving experience. Well-considered components, internally routed cables and a competition-tested BMC geometry are perfect for everyday sporting use.

BMC Teammachine ALR Disc Features

Tuned compliance concept

The Tuned Compliance Concept ensures ideal comfort on all-day trips. Engineered to support riders through long days of racing and intense training. Bumps are filtered out to ensure a smooth and efficient ride.

ACE Technology fork

The ACE Technology fork specially developed for the BMC Teammachine delivers an outstanding riding experience and first-class handling.

BMC Road machine

The BMC Roadmachine X is the perfect companion for a variety of challenges on unknown terrain. The unique construction skilfully combines functionality and performance and ensures lots of driving fun on adventurous trips.

BMC Roadmachine X with Sram Rival HRD 1x drivetrain and Mavic Allroad Disc UST wheelset.

To achieve this versatility, BMC engineers used Tuned Compliance Concept technology. With the stable, versatile geometry, reliable components and all-round wheelset, the BMC Roadmachine X offers first-class performance and handling on almost any terrain. The hidden mounts for carriers and the tubeless wheelset also make the Roadmachine X a commuter or all-weather bike. The long front end improves control, while the short chainstays are designed to ensure quick acceleration.

The Roadmachine X features TCC Endurance, the most powerful version of BMC's Tuned Compliance Concept technology. Specific areas of the frame move in predefined patterns when subjected to vertical loads, creating precise vertical compliance without sacrificing lateral stiffness. The end result is the balance between comfort and performance for a fast ride. Functional and minimalistic, well thought-out features like internal cable routing blend seamlessly with the clean design in true Swiss style, while flat-mount brakes provide enhanced durability and a clean and integrated aesthetic.

BMC Road Time Machine

BMC Timemachine 01 Road One with SRAM RED eTap AXS drivetrain and Enve SES 5.6 Disc wheelset.

The BMC Timemachine Road offers one of the most advanced overall aerodynamic concepts on the market. For all speed junkies and lovers of clean looks, the Timemachine Road is the perfect bike to have lots of fun. Because thanks to full integration and a special frame shape including an aero module at the level of the bottle holder, the BMC is at the forefront when it comes to aerodynamics and a clean look.

BMC Timemachine 01 Road Two with Shimano Dura Ace Di2 drivetrain and Mavic Comete Pro Carbon Disc wheelset
BMC Timemachine 01 Road Three with SRAM Force eTap AXS gears and DT Swiss ARC 1400 DICUT db 62 carbon wheelset.
BMC Timemachine 01 Road Four with Shimano Ultegra Di2 Disc drivetrain and DT Swiss ARC 1650 SPLINE db 62 carbon wheelset.

In addition to the aero module, the aerodynamic tube shape and the integration of the ICS Aero Cockpit also contribute to the speed, which could be optimized thanks to precise CFD simulations and wind tunnel tests. Of course, the full integration should not come at the expense of functionality and comfort. This is ensured by the TCC Speed technology, which minimizes the vibrations of the road and thus combines rolling speed and power transmission with a pleasant driving experience. The carbon fiber assignment of the Timemachine Road filters vibrations from the road via the fork and the lowered seat stays in order to make power transmission even more efficient. The flattened ICS Aero stem offers comfort and control without negatively affecting the aerodynamics.

BMC Urs Unrestricted

As a new gravel weapon from BMC, the Urs is one of the eye-catchers in the 2020 model range. The carbon racer has a sporty basic structure and, thanks to numerous features, can also score well off the beaten track and roads. The name Urs does not stand for a Swiss first name, but is much more an abbreviation for Unrestricted and is intended to underline the diversity or the unrestricted nature of the bike.

All four equipment variants of the BMC Urs rely on the same first-class carbon frame, which uses the Micro Travel Technology already known from BMC hardtails in the rear. This is an elastomer between the seat stays and the main frame, which provides more comfort with around 10mm of spring travel. Well-hidden mounting points for luggage racks and mudguards at the front and rear, which can be attached if necessary, ensure that it is particularly suitable for everyday use. The fork even comes with internal routing for the cable of a hub dynamo. So that bikepacking fans can also enjoy the new BMC gravel bike, it comes with three bottle holders and mounting points for bags on the top tube. Merely the fact that the BMC Urs was only designed for one chainring could be an exclusion criterion for some riders.

BMC Urs: models and trim levels

All four equipment variants have the frame in common - apart from the color, exactly the same, high-quality base is used here - the same applies to the carbon fork. BMC also always uses the D-Shape carbon post for the post. In the cockpit, the three high-quality variants score points with the integrated ICS stem, which runs all the cables and lines inside and which BMC fans should already be familiar with from the Teammachine. In terms of price, the Urs starts at a fair 3.000 euros for the entry-level model with Apex 1 group and DT Swiss wheels.
