Cycling: In the coming weeks, the riders of the UCI WorldTour will be preparing for the new season. 19 competitions await the 36 teams. We provide a brief overview before we take a closer look at a team each day in December.
The teams: Still 2 German teams
In the coming season, 19 teams will be part of the UCI WorldTour. While the Israel Cycling Academy replaced Katusha - Alpecin through the license takeover, the French team Cofidis rose to the highest class of cycling. Furthermore, Total Direct Energie can look forward to mandatory invitations to all competitions. Wanty - Gobert is allowed to take part in all races of the newly founded UCI Classics Series. There are two Germans among the 19 UCI WorldTour teams in the 2020 season. Bora – after ranking #2 in 2019, hansgrohe can be expected to do quite a bit in the coming months. The calendar: 2 competitions in Germany & 2 in Switzerland
From January 21st to October 20th the 36 competitions of the UCI WorldTour 2020 will be held. The pros will travel to four continents with Australia, Asia, North America and Europe in the 10th edition of the highest racing series in men's road cycling. The highlights are once again the three major country tours in Italy, France and Spain, as well as the five monuments Milan - Sanremo, the Flanders Tour, Paris - Roubaix, Liège - Bastogne - Liège and the Lombardy Tour. But there are also some changes waiting for the fans. The Tour of Turkey did not make it into the UCI WorldTour 2020, as hardly any top teams were interested in participating in the coming years. The Tour of California is also suspended this season. For the first time since the World Cup was abolished, a classic king will be crowned again in 2020. The UCI Classics Series combines the one-day races of the UCI WorldTour and determines an overall winner at the end of the year.
