Shimano ET5 e-bike shoe: New shoe specially designed for e-trekking riders

11 October 2019 by Andrew Waldera

Product news / E-Performance: Shimano has a special clothing highlight for e-trekking riders ready for the coming year. The Shimano ET5 e-bike shoe is specifically aimed at e-bikers who ride both in the city and in the countryside. The focus in the development of the shoe was fatigue-free pedaling, even over long distances, as well as high walking comfort.

Many e-trekkers still choose conventional sports and leisure shoes when choosing their footwear. However, what seems reasonable at first glance often turns out to be counterproductive in practice. The misappropriation of the shoes can be seen by looking at the shoe sole, which gradually deforms and thus tires the foot and calf muscles. However, pure cycling shoes often have the disadvantage that they are not necessarily designed for running. With the new ET5 e-bike shoe, Shimano would like to skilfully bridge the gap between the two quite opposite areas. For this purpose, the manufacturer combines a stiffer midsole with a natural rolling behavior of the foot.

Shimano ET5 e-bike shoes: Power loss reduced by up to 50%

According to Shimano, the stiffer midsole of the ET5 e-bike shoe is designed in such a way that muscle fatigue is reduced and you can therefore pedal longer. Shimano promises a reduction in power loss of up to 50% compared to conventional leisure shoes. The profile and material of the shoe sole are chosen in such a way that there should be a good grip on a wide variety of pedal types, even when wet. The Shimano ET5 also has a block profile in the toe and heel area to increase grip when ascending and descending off-road. Other features of the new e-bike shoe are the protected toe box and reflective details for more visibility in traffic. The shoe is fixed to the foot using the MiniPower Strap lacing system.

The Shimano ET5 e-bike shoe is available as a men's and women's model in sizes 38-48 and 36-43. There are five color variants to choose from, the price is given as 99,95 euros.
