Cycling: Jasper Stuyven (Trek – Segafredo) won the Deutschland Tour 2019. The Belgian did not let his red jersey be taken off on the last day. Sonny Colbrelli (Bahrain – Merida) won the final stage in Erfurt and thus also secured victory in the points classification.
Colbrelli & Stuyven celebrate in Erfurt
The Germany Tour 2019 is history. Today the professionals completed the last 159,5 kilometers of the tour from Eisenach to Erfurt. It first went through the Thuringian Forest before the profile became increasingly easier. At the finish, a few more waves had to be overcome on the final laps - but not a problem for most sprinters. So it came to the expected mass sprint, the Sonny Colbrelli (Bahrain – Merida) won. He referred Yves Lampaert (Deceuninck – Quick Step) and alexander kristoff (UAE Team Emirates) and thus also won the points classification. The overall victory left Jasper stuyven (Trek – Segafredo) in fifth place, although the day's winner was still within three seconds of him.
Cort Nielsen wins the mountains classification ahead of Nibali
As expected, the first part of the stage was completed with a high average speed. Eventually, seven riders were able to break away, including yesterday's stage winner Kasper Asgreen (Deceuninck – Quick-Step) and the leader in the mountains classification Mads pedersen (Trek – Segafredo). Also Magnus Cort Nielsen (Astana) was among the front runners and secured victory in the overall mountain classification by winning two mountain classifications – with the same number of points Vincenzo Nibali (Bahrain - Merida). Due to an increase in the pace in the Sunweb peloton and the generally hard work of Trek – Segafredo, the escapees were caught again relatively early. Finally, numerous riders tried to initiate a new group, including with Nils Politt (Katusha – Alpecin) and Marcus Burghardt (Bora – hansgrohe) also some Germans. Pascal Ackermann and Rüdiger Selig from the Bora – hansgrohe team, on the other hand, gave up the race.
Huppertz rewards himself for the hard work
Finally succeeded Joshua Huppertz (Lotto - Kern-Haus) to set off before the circuit in Erfurt. The German turned into the final laps as a soloist but was mercilessly chased by Deceuninck – Quick-Step. This tracking work paid off – and Hupertz was caught. After all, he enjoyed the reception in Erfurt as the sole leader. He was also recognized as the most combative rider of the stage. The stage victory, however, went to sonny colbrelli, who was clearly ahead in the mass sprint.
