Vuelta a Espana #6: Mass fall, Herrada wins, Teuns takes over red

August 29, 2019 by Michael Behringer

Cofidi's team introduction Herrada

Cycling: The sixth stage of the Vuelta a Espana had a lot to offer. First, well-known professionals had to leave the tour after a mass fall. Then Jesús Herrada (Cofidis) won as a breakaway in front of Dylan Teuns (Bahrain – Merida). As a consolation prize, the second in the stage received the red jersey.

Uran & Roche have to give up the Vuelta

From Mora de Rubielos to Ares del Maestrat, the 198,9 kilometers at the Vuelta a Espan were still not easy to cover today. Unfortunately, Rigobert Uran and Hugh Carthy from the EF Education First team, as well as Victor de la Parte (CCC) and Nicolas Roche (Sunweb) did not make it to the finish. After a mass crash, they had to give up the race. At some point, the peloton also gave up chasing the escapees. Jesús Herrada (Cofidis) was able to secure the stage victory ahead of Dylan Teuns (Bahrain – Merida), who took over the overall lead. The favorites couldn't afford any time differences. Miguel Angel Lopez (Astana) is now exactly one minute behind the new leader.
