Cycling: Filippo Ganna (Ineos) has won the sixth stage of the Binck Bank Tour. In the 8,35-kilometer time trial, he left Edoardo Affini (Mitchelton – Scott) behind. Tim Wellens (Lotto – Soudal) was able to defend his lead in the overall standings. The Belgian certainly won't have the jersey before the final day.
Ganna celebrates victory of the day
The pros of the Binck Bank Tour had to cover 8,35 kilometers on their time trial bikes in The Hague today. Like the previous stages, today's section should also be winding, narrow and technically demanding. Apparently, the Italian Filippo Ganna coped best with it. With a time of 9:16 minutes, he relegated Edoardo Affini (Mitchelton – Scott) to second place.
Tim Wellens is on the verge of his third overall victory
also had reason to be happy Tim Wellens (Lotto – Soudal). Thanks to his strong performance and tenth place in the time trial, he was able to defend the leader's jersey. The Belgian lost only 20 seconds to the day's winner, while his main competitor - the Swiss Marc Hirschi (Sunweb) – Lost 24 seconds. Now it's just a matter of defending the leader's jersey for one more day. Tomorrow, however, this will not be easy, because the hilly final stage leads, among other things, up the wall of Geraardsbergen. There, Tim Wellens will protect himself against attacks from Laurens DePlus (Jumbo – Visma) and Marc Hirschi have to defend themselves. If Tim Wellens can fend off all attacks, he will win the overall ranking of the Binck Bank Tour for the third time after 2014 and 2015.
