Cube road bike innovations 2020: Aero offensive for next year

August 14, 2019 by Florian Nowak

Product news: The bike manufacturer Cube has made provisions for the 2020 season and is presenting its new road models. The highlights include the completely new Cube Litening C:68X series with four top racing bike models and the company's own Heron Aero helmet.

Cube road bike innovations 2020: Cube Litening C:68X

The Cube Litening C:68X has been redesigned from the ground up with the aim of combining the best aerodynamics, low weight, comfort and rigidity. During development, the Cube engineers first considered what really matters. Because from a speed of 15 km/h, aerodynamic efficiency becomes more important than weight. Every centimeter of the frame has been optimized with the help of intensive CFD analyzes and wind tunnel tests. This was also based on the construction of triathlon bikes.

The frame is made of premium carbon C:68X, which, thanks to its seamless structure, allows the fork, stem, handlebars and seat post to merge into one unit next to the frame. The integrated headset has an aero top cap, which, in combination with disc brakes, reduces the front surfaces of the fork head and head tube. According to the manufacturer, air resistance has been reduced by a full 30%. Despite the complete integration, the focus is on easy handling, which is why specially developed, divisible spacers are used, which enable the stem to be adjusted in height quickly and easily.

When developing the C:68 technology, the main focus was on reducing the resin content to the ideal value of 32%. In addition, the texture of the resin system has been increased to a maximum of resilience through the addition of special nanoparticles. This is where the know-how of Alex Schnurra, the former AX Lightness maker, came into play. Thanks to the new technology, it is possible for the fibers and, above all, the fiber angles to be selected in such a way that they exactly meet their actual stress in the overall structure of the frame, which should significantly improve driving performance. Up to six different fiber types are used. In addition, a different core is used when baking the frame, which ensures fewer cavities that can fill with resin. As a result, this leads to significantly less weight, with greater rigidity and better comfort in the seating area. Thus, the frame in size 56 weighs only 980 grams.
