Product news: Product news: Lee Cougan launches a completely new XC series

July 15, 2019 by Florian Nowak

Product news: The mountain bike and off-road specialist Lee Cougan Bikes has now presented its new XC lineup after intensive development work. The entire MTB series was revised from the ground up to offer riders even better performance.

The result of the revised MTB series from Lee Cougan Bikes is the completely new design of the Crossfire and Rampage models. The aim of the redesign was to stick to the continuous innovation and further development of the bikes and thus make Lee Cougan's fastest bikes even faster. New technologies and design inputs have been used to ensure performance can be improved at every level.

The two new models take advantage of Lee Cougan Air Technology, a carbon molding technique that uses extremely high pressure during the modeling phase to eliminate imperfections that trapped air can create. These are blended with high quality 1k, 3k and unidirectional carbon fibers resulting in a more compact overall structure. This made it possible to build stronger, more reliable and lighter carbon frames. The Rampage even weighed 200 grams compared to its predecessor. Nevertheless, the other performance values should not be disregarded when it comes to weight reduction. For this purpose, the vertically flexible tubes of the upper part of the frame were connected to laterally stiff and efficient down tubes to offer the best power transmission and efficiency.

Another innovation on the Lee Cougan bikes are the shortened chainstays. Which, in combination with the fully sprung Crossfire, ensures even more racing suitability, liveliness and comfort.

Lee Cougan Crossfire Fade

The Lee Cougan engineering team developed an innovative and very atypical solution for the rear end by moving the chainstay transition in front of the seat tube. This revolutionary design ensures optimal torsional rigidity while maintaining tire clearance of up to 2,25″. The geometry has also been revised and made even more sporty with regard to racing. While the rear end was trimmed for agility, the decision was made to offer more stability at the front, which gives the driver more safety and control through a more open head tube angle.

In addition to internal cable routing, a three-bolt system on the seat post and seat tube ensures a uniform look, with a clean look and high quality.
