Product news: FFWD Wheels already presented the Fast Forward Falcon project last year. This is a wheel system with only two spokes based on the FFWD M5. After a number of wind tunnel and field tests on the road, this project could be further developed and the fastest Fast Forward wheel is now on the market.
The Fast Forward Falcon wheel has a unique design based on two spokes in a line down the center of the wheel. The rim is also different with a variable height between 48mm at the lowest point and 90mm at the highest point. The construction of the wheel with NACA profile spokes and variable rim height leads to minimal air resistance. The Fast Forward Falcon outperforms competing front wheels by saving up to 9 watts.
The Fast Forward Falcon was built from UD carbon fibers based on the in-house Toray 800 and 1000 series. The material used is carefully selected to achieve the best stiffness-to-weight ratio. Due to its specific design and the material used, the Falcon achieves a very well balanced wheel. Another highlight of the Fast Forward Falcon is the rim width, in order to make the wheel more aerodynamic in combination with wider tires and to be suitable for tubeless construction.
The Falcon's main area of application is likely to be in time trials and triathlons. You have the option of using it with tubular and wire tires and with rim and disc brakes. In addition, the Falcon will also be available as a disc wheel, where tests have shown that a disc Falcon is more aerodynamic than other combinations.
Over the past year, riders from the pro cycling teams Total Direct Energie and Arkea-Samic have ridden and tested this bike and given positive feedback on the Falcon's overall performance and handling. Among other things, the wheel will also be seen in the time trial during the Tour de France on July 19th.
Fast Forward Falcon availability and price
The Fast Forward Falcon will be available from September 2019. The bike is priced at 1899 euros for the front wheel and 1999 euros for the rear wheel, regardless of the choice of tubeless, tubular, rim brake or disc brake.
