Zimmermann & Schinnagel in the breakaway group

Over the Dientner Saddle, through Zell am See up to the Großglockner. That was today's daily menu for the pros at the Tour of Austria. But before the top of this year's Tour of Austria was reached, a total of 103,5 kilometers had to be covered from Radstadt to the Fuscher Törl. Kenny Molly (Wallonia-Bruxelles), Thibault Guernalec (Arkea – Samsic), Laurent Pichon (Arkea – Samsic), Alexis Guerin (Delko – Marseille Provence), Edoardo Zardini (Neri Sottoli – Selle Italia – KTM) and the two Germans George Zimmerman (Tirol KTM Cycling Team) and Johannes Schinnagel (Maloja Pushbikers) formed the breakaway of the day. In the person of Edoardo Zardini, however, the last of them was caught by the peloton in the ascent to the Grossglockner.

Hermans intercepts O'Connor

In the final ascent, the Gazprom – RusVelo and Movistar teams in particular pushed the pace. The main field quickly flew apart and only one group of favorites remained. Dimension Data was also well represented, but initially held back with offensive actions. Austria's hope Riccardo Zoidl (CCC) struggled to keep up but was able to catch up several times at his own pace. Although the team Movistar with Winner Anacona attacked three times if it wasn't enough for victory. long saw Ben O'Connor (Dimension Data) like the certain winner, but in the last 500 meters last year's winner could Ben Hermans (Israel Cycling Academy) establish contact again. Eventually he left his companion and won the stage. Austria's Riccardo Zoidl was sixth.
