Product news: ABS bike backpack - modular backpack system from avalanche specialists

July 22, 2019 by the editorial office

Product news: ABS not only stands for the anti-lock braking system from Bosch, but is also the lifeline in freeride skiing. A backpack that can save lives in an avalanche thanks to the "airbag" system. The ABS company has been dealing with safety backpacks since the late 70s and introduced the modular Zip-On system in 2014. A version for bikers is now also available.

The backpack is available with a volume of 15 or 30 liters. In our case it was the smaller variant.

ABS bike backpack: the modular principle

The backpack system from ABS consists of two units, which can be varied depending on use and requirements. The base unit always serves as the basis. Suitable for skiing there is the base unit with and without an airbag system, a version for bikes with light (non-certified) protection on the back and a special version for hikers and trekking.

The zip-on is attached to the base unit with a massive zip all the way around. A distinction is usually made between the different sizes, the material and the color. There are ultra-light variants, but also more stable and waterproof bags. The s.Light zip-on unit, which is available in sizes of 15 liters and 30 liters and impresses with its extremely low weight, is best suited for bikers.

The ergonomic carrying system makes the s.BIKE Base Unit a pleasant companion not only on bike tours. An easily accessible hip belt pocket and the option to pass through a drinking tube round off the appearance of a bike bag. The buckles for attaching the hip belt are solid and secure. Two milled aluminum parts are hooked together. A certified SAS-TEC protector can be inserted inside the base unit and increases the safety of the backpack to a maximum
