Cycling: Luis Leon Sanchez (Astana) used all his experience on the second stage of the Tour de Suisse and clinched the day's victory. The Spaniard attacked a few kilometers from the finish and could not be caught. Behind them, Peter Sagan (Bora – hansgrohe) sprinted to second place. However, the three-time world champion missed the yellow jersey. Tomorrow Kasper Asgreen (Deceuninck – Quick-Step) will start the race as the leader.
Battle for bonus seconds
The pros held the second stage of the Tour de Suisse around Langnau in the Emmental. A demanding circuit with two inclines each had to be completed three times. However, since the last summit was crossed about 20 kilometers before the finish, even the hilly sprinters should not be without a chance today. And it was precisely this uncertainty that made the race so exciting. The first breakaway group around Claudia Imhof (Swiss national team) was caught again early on. The peloton sprinted for bonus seconds, so that Peter Sagan (Bora – hansgrohe) and Michael Matthews (Sunweb) closer to Leader in overall standings Rohan Dennis (Bahnrain – Merida) could push up. During the last intermediate sprint, this was also useful Kasper Asgreen (Deceuninck – Quick Step) off. The Dane won the classification and even slipped into the virtual yellow jersey.
Sanchez clever to win the stage
In the descent after the last climb, the pace was slowed down a bit. The teams first had to find out which drivers were even up front. This hesitation took advantage Luis Leon Sanchez (Astana) off. The experienced Spaniard was able to quickly create a gap that could not be closed. Due to his deficit in yesterday's time trial, however, he just missed the yellow jersey. The overall lead was at stake in the sprint behind him. There secured himself Peter Sagan (Bora – hansgrohe) Second place. Matteo Trentin (Mitchelton-Scott) referred Kasper Asgreen (Deceuninck – Quick-Step) in fourth place and thus prevented the Dane from also getting bonus seconds at the finish. Thus, there is synchronicity between Sagan and Asgreen. But it should still be enough for Kasper Asgreen for the yellow jersey - due to the hundredths in yesterday's time trial. What tension down to the last centimetre!
