Cycling: Egan Bernal (Ineos) won the Tour de Suisse 2019. On the last day of the tour, the Colombian fended off all attacks by Australian Rohan Dennis (Bahrain – Merida). The day's win in Ulrichen went to escapee Hugh Carthy (EF Education First) after a 100-kilometer escape.
Hugh Carthy vs The World
The final stage of the 2019 Tour de Suisse had to be shortened and diverted due to the weather conditions. But the updated 101,0 kilometer course with start and finish in Ulrichen was by no means easy. After the Nufenen Pass, the Gotthard Pass also had to be conquered before the decision was made on the Furka Pass. Three HC mountains in a row - that was a real endurance test even for the strongest climbers, even though there were still around 26 kilometers to the finish line after the last summit. No wonder some pros crept into the top flight of the day. In this way, several groups were formed in front of the main field. Among other things, the German also presented himself Lennard Kamna (Sunweb) and the Swiss Gino Mader (Dimension Data) very active. However, nobody could come with me Hugh Carthy (EF Education First) keep up. As a soloist, the Brit plowed up and down the mountains - and in the end won the section as a soloist.
Bernal repels all of Dennis' attacks
Behind the winner of the day, the fight for the yellow jersey broke out up the Furka Pass. Rohan Dennis (Bahrain – Merica) – just 22 seconds back in the general classification – attacked leaders Egan Bernal (Ineo). But the Australian just couldn't get rid of the Colombian. However, the duo shook off everyone else. Also the pursuers of Hugh Carthy gradually collected them. At the end of the tour, Rohan Dennis secured second place in the daily ranking. The big winner, however, is Egan Bernal. The Austrian can claim third place in the overall standings Patrick Conrad (Bora – hansgrohe) who was able to achieve his most impressive result to date.
