cycling: German championship: Time trial titles go to Martin, Heidemann & Klein

Cycling: Today the German Road Championships in time trials were held in Spremberg. Tony Martin (Jumbo – Visma) successfully defended his title in the men's race. Lisa Klein (Canyon – SRAM) was successful for the first time in the women's category. In the U23 class, Miguel Heidemann (Herrmann Radteam) triumphed.

Tony Martin German Time Trial Champion for the ninth time

Tony Martin (Jumbo – Visma) is old and new German time trial champion. The 34-year-old was 35 seconds ahead of the 18-kilometer route in Spremberg Nils Politt (Katusha – Alpecin) and 60 seconds ahead Jasha Sutterlin (Movistar) claim, although he had to change wheels along the way. Tony Martin thus celebrates his ninth German championship title in the time trial within ten years. In Switzerland triumphed Stefan Kung (Groupama – FDJ) on Wednesday for the third time in a row. Austria Matthias Brandle (Israel Cycling Academy) secured his fifth title back in May.

Klein wins with the women, Heidemann in the U23

In Spremberg, the women first held the German championship. The 30-year-old from Erfurt was able to compete on the 22-kilometer course Lisa Klein (Canyon – SRAM) prevail after 38:49 minutes. She was seven seconds faster than Mike Kroeger (Team Virtu) and 28 seconds faster than Lisa Brennauer (WNT - Rotor). Lisa Klein can be happy about her first German championship title in the time trial. Also successful for the first time in the U23 class Miguel Heideman (Herrmann cycling team). The 35-year-old left the competition far behind over 21 kilometers. He took a whopping 58 seconds from second place Florian Stork (Sunweb Development Team). Yuri Hollman (Heizomat – rad-net) finished third, 61 seconds back. Defending champion Jasper Frahm (Heizomat – rad-net) did not start. On Sunday, the women's and men's road races will be held on the Sachsenring.
