Since Diesel & Co. have been dominating the headlines, more and more people have been thinking about alternative means of transportation. The bicycle or e-bike is particularly popular with short-distance commuters. A prerequisite for this, however, is always a well-developed cycle path network.
The district of Regensburg in the Upper Palatinate has now made this a priority and, together with the citizens, would like to optimize the district-wide cycling network with the help of a citizen participation tool. From May 17 to June 30, 2019, anyone interested can submit feedback at www.landkreis-regensburg.de/radkonzept. In doing so, those responsible rely on reports of, for example, missing cycle paths, poor cycle path conditions or dangerous spots.
At the end of the process in March 2020, a target network for the entire district and the resulting long-, medium- and short-term measures are to be derived and implemented from the numerous suggestions for improvement of the "mobility concept for cycling" for the district of Regensburg.
We at the editorial team wish that many more districts and cities jump on this "train" and promote cycling together with the citizens.
