Raffle/Product News: Since 2010, Castelli has been revolutionizing the style of clothing in the professional peloton in cold and wet weather with the introduction of the Gabba. Very soon the Gabba was chosen as the rain jersey par excellence and it is impossible to imagine cycling without it. On the occasion of and in honor of the Giro d'Italia 2019, Castelli is now offering the iconic Gabba and the Perfetto Long Sleeve Jersey in pink.
The story of how the Castelli came about is closely linked to the former professional cyclist Gabriel Rasch, who approached the developers with the idea of a water-repellent short-sleeved jersey. Six months after this idea, the Cervélo test team entered the Omloop Het Nieuwsblad 2010 with an unprecedented product, the Castelli Gabba. Together with the Cervelo Test Team, the Gabba was further developed and improvements were added. Such was the success that teams not sponsored by Castelli also wore the Gabba in plain sight during the snowy Milan-Sanremo 2013 event. So did the later winner Gerald Ciolek, who was the happiest in the end thanks to the aerodynamic advantages of the rain protection.
Even today, the Gabba stands for perfect rain protection and offers the driver the best possible aerodynamics. The days of flapping rain jackets are long gone!
The history of the Maglia Rosa by Castelli
After a 26-year hiatus, Castelli returned to the Giro d'Italia last year and has since provided the Maglia Rosa, as well as the other leaders' jerseys, for the race. The first winner to wear the pink jersey at the Giro d'Italia was none other than Giovanni Battaglin in 1981 and the last was winner Miguel Indurain in 1992. Bernard Hinault also won his three Giro titles at Castelli and Francesco Moser , Andy Hampsten, Stephen Roche and Gianni Bugno celebrated unforgettable race wins wearing the iconic Castelli Rosa jersey.
