Product news: With the new R1 bicycle helmet, the communications specialist Sena is now making its debut in the bike sector. The US company became known for its integrated communication solutions in motorcycle helmets. The Sena R1 is primarily aimed at urban cyclists and cyclists who value sporty design, safety and communication.
The Sena R1 bike helmet, which is available in three colors (Electric Tangerine, Ice Blue and Black) and three sizes (S, M and L), comes with a wide range of smart features. This includes, among other things, the call connection via Bluetooth 4.1 with a range of up to 900 meters in the open field and up to 4 participants. Optionally, however, the R1 can also be used to establish a voice-controlled mobile phone connection via the smartphone. The implemented noise suppression system (Advanced Noise Control) should guarantee a crystal-clear connection in HD quality. According to the manufacturer, the perception of one's own surroundings is fully retained when driving. This is also ensured by the integrated headphones, which make earplugs superfluous.
The communication system is powered by a lithium polymer battery. The helmet can be configured via smartphone or tablet with the Sena smartphone app. For maximum protection in the event of a fall, the engineers have given the new bicycle helmet the MIPS safety system. The Sena R1 also has removable and washable padding and a leather-coated chin strap. If you are traveling alone and want to be entertained, you can look forward to the integrated FM radio. Despite the extensive equipment package, the R1 is quite lightweight with a specified weight of 380 grams (size M). The helmet, which has won several awards for design and function, is available for 259 euros. According to the manufacturer, other helmets, including those specially designed for mountain bikers, and accessories such as integrated action cams will follow in the near future.
