cycling: Tour de France: Direct Energie & Arkéa – Samsic receive wildcards

March 22, 2019 by Michael Behringer

Tour de France 2019 Teams Arkea Samsic Greipel

Cycling: André Greipel can take a deep breath! His team Arkéa - Samsic received a wildcard for the Tour de France 2019, as did the Direct Energie team.

André Greipel & Robert Wagner are allowed to go to the Tour de France 2019

When the Tour de France 6 starts in Brussels on July 2019th, there is a good chance that André Greipel and Robert Wagner will be there. The two German professionals switched to the French ProContinental team before this season Arkea – Samsic. Since the team is not one of the 18 WorldTour teams, it relies on one of four wildcards. Today, Friday, the OSA announced via press release that the teams Direct Energie and Arkéa – Samsic are allowed to plan for the Tour de France in July.

Andre Greipel:
“I got the message while I was on the bike. This is fantastic, not only for me but for the whole team and the sponsors.”

Arkéa – Samsic, Direct Energie, Cofidis and Wanty – Groupe Gobert

Whether André Greipel and Robert Wagner will actually take part in the 2019 Tour de France is ultimately decided by the sports directors of Arkéa – Samsic. However, since the two Germans were specially signed for this season, it can be assumed that they are firmly planned alongside climber Warren Barguil. Through the team Direct Energie we can probably look forward to Tour of Flanders winner Niki Terpstra and Tour de France stage winner Lilian Calmejane. Unfortunately, the French team went away empty-handed when the wildcards were awarded Vital Concept – B&B Hotels around sprinter Bryan Coquard and climber Pierre Rolland. Already have in January Cofidis and Wanty - Groupe Gobert received the confirmation for the Tour de France 2019. For the Critérium du Dauphiné 2019, Cofidis, Wanty – Groupe Gobert, Arkéa – Samsic and Vital Concept – B&B Hotels are allowed to plan.
